Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish diplomat in Budapest, saved the lives of 100,000 Hungarian Jews scheduled for transportation to Nazi extermination camps. Wallenberg disappeared after meeting with Soviet military leaders and probably died in a Soviet prison.
